Transdev hosted City of Yarra Chief Executive Officer, Vijaya Vaidyanath, councillors and transport staff to showcase the latest addition to our fleet, Victoria’s first fully electric bus, and discuss its role in creating cleaner communities.
As part of the meeting, Ian Craig, Managing Director, Transdev Melbourne highlighted Transdev’s strategy for the future of electric buses and took the opportunity to showcase the new technology by taking the Yarra staff and councillors for a ride in the electric bus.
Mr Craig said the trial was progressing well, with a great deal of interest being shown in the electric bus by the community and stakeholders.
“We’re really proud to partner with the Victorian Government on this important trial and to bring this technology to the people of Melbourne,” said Mr Craig.
“As the leading zero emission operator in Europe, Transdev has significant global expertise in electric vehicles. We always welcome the opportunity to meet with local partners who share an interest in zero emissions technology and cleaner communities.”
Councillor Misha Coleman, Mayor, City of Yarra said she was pleased that the zero emissions electric bus is being trialled in Yarra.
“It is a much more enjoyable experience; quieter for those riding the bus as well as those outside,” said Cr Coleman.
“Electric buses mean less pollution for our Yarra community. It’s a great step forward in helping to address the challenge of climate change."
The locally built, fully electric bus is currently operating on route 246 between Clifton Hill and Elsternwick.
